Overview of the Child Care Licensing Process

(Full process takes approximately 60 days)

Inquiry about Licensing: Submit the tear-off portion of the brochure available at your local DFS office. For a list of locations click here.
Contact from a Licensor: A licensor will call to answer your questions after receiving the tear-off portion.
Release for Background Check: Submit a signed authorization of Release form to the licensor in your area.
Orientation: There are two phases to be completed for approved clock hours:
1. View three hours of videotapes on getting started in the child care profession
2. Participate in a three hour group orientation that are held each month across the state.
Application: Complete an application and submit a non-refundable fee to DFS.
Inspections: DFS Licensing, Fire, Health, & Sanitation inspections must be completed.
License: Upon compliance with all inspections
